The Bureau of Exception Children and Adults is a non-profit organization that provides religious and social services to disabled children and adults throughout Western Massachusetts. This position requires a highly motivated and caring professional to provide a pivotal leadership role, which includes the management of the Bureau’s day-to-day operations, the supervision of all staff, property and programs.

Description: The Bureau of Exceptional Children and Adults (BECA) is seeking to hire an Executive Director with advanced knowledge of a professional discipline such as social sciences, human services, and business administration. Equivalent to a Master's Degree. Over 3 years of progressive experience in a non-profit agency. Working knowledge of computer systems, programs and applications.


Hampden / Hampshire Region (40 Hours + flex)

The Executive Director is responsible for the management, development, and growth of Religious, Pastoral and Family Support programs serving our special needs community. Manages budgets, negotiates contracts as applicable, applies for grants, develops and participates in fund raising activities. Develops and maintains liaisons within the community. Responsible for the overall operation of the bureau in accordance with the stated mission, goals, policies and procedures set forth by the board of directors through effective leadership and supervision.

The Executive Director is the face of the organization with ultimate management and administrative responsibilities. The position typically requires an advanced academic degree suited to the assigned programs. Program management requires the ability to interpret situations/issues within program policies and make decisions necessary to ensure successful service to our special needs community. Position is directly responsible for supervision of staff and volunteers carrying out direct program objectives. Also ensures proper management and maintenance of all property, buildings, vehicles and equipment.

SUPERVISION: Reports to Board of Directors.


  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge and experience working with the special needs community with at least 3 – 5 years’ experience as Executive Director of a Non-Profit Organization or equivalent.
  • Ability to raise funds through prior experience with fundraising, grant writing and managing a staff.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of ministry and/or pastoral practices of the Catholic religion.
  • Experience in the areas of advocacy and family support within the special needs community.
  • Ability to network within the special needs community through connections to the agencies, support groups and programs for people with special needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher.
